Sports psychology is an interdisciplinary science that draws its foundations from biomechanics, physiology, kinesiology and psychology. It is the study of how our minds play an important role in performance and partaking in sports.

How are the great sports personalities different from us? Is it that they do things differently or are they made for sports? The answer is yes to both of these questions. They are indeed different, as they think like winners. It is here that sports psychology can be used to analyse the success of athletes.

Using stories as simple as The Hare and Tortoise and as grand as David and Goliath, the 1st module of the course uses these examples to explain Sports Psychology, and how the thought processes of winners can make all the difference in competition and in life. The module then goes on to explain the place of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and decision making within sports psychology.

The 2nd module of the Sports Psychology Diploma Course discusses the importance of mental strength in a number of areas, to aid success. This covers: attention and concentration, motivation (both intrinsic and extrinsic), mind control, the various types of psychotherapy, self-esteem, handling pressure, and staying in the zone.

It is important to understand no matter which skill or sport you wish to gain mastery of, time management will make or break you. The 3rd module is a practical guide on how to set your priorities and goals, and work towards them tenaciously to achieve your dreams.

The route to success is never easy and along the way there will be doubts and stress. The 4th module of the Sports Psychology Diploma Course offers a number of techniques that a sports psychologist may employ and suggest to combat the stresses their clients suffer from. These include: sleep relaxation, massage, EFT (Emotional freedom technique), yoga, meditation, mindfulness, positive affirmations, and diet.

Success in sport is rarely a solo effort and whether there it is a solo or team sport, there is always a team of people working towards success. The 5th module explains how to become an effectual leader, as well as discussing how to properly set goals, overcome obstacles, and use visualisation to be successful.

The success of a sports person, is not just the result of their hard work but also of those who support them, aside from coaches and team members, it is the further support network that is relied on to help them through; the friends and parents. Module 6 of the Sports Psychology Diploma Course discusses the role of parents in the nurturing of talent, explaining how parents can help their child to succeed, as well as how to deal with, recover from, and build up from failure.

The 7th module discusses the place of marketing and sponsorship within sports, from a psychological standpoint. This explains the various reasons why companies would sponsor a sports personality or team and the different ways in which they may do this, depending on what they hope to achieve.

The 8th and final module of the Sports Psychology Diploma Course exposes students to the role of a sports psychologist. This explains areas such as: the required level of education needed, salary expectations, what a typical day and various sessions could look like within the role, and ways in which you could expand your business in this area.
