CHESHIRE, WARRINGTON AND LANCASHIRE “TRAIN THE TRAINER” PROJECT

Introduction
The Cheshire, Warrington and Lancashire Train the Trainer Project supports the growth of the learning and skills workforce in the area and is funded by the European Social Fund. The Cheshire, Warrington and Lancashire Train the Trainer Project provides a training service to individuals who want to train as NVQ Assessors or Verifiers and work with training providers in the region who need to recruit high quality skilled and trained staff to deliver their Learning and Skills Council funded training programmes. The Cheshire, Warrington and Lancashire Train the Trainer Project is committed to delivering a superior training programme for Assessors and Verifiers.

The Offer
High quality Assessor and Verifier training will be provided to 177 Cheshire, Warrington and Lancashire based individuals who have vocational experience across a broad range of trade and skills sectors. There is a constant demand for experienced staff to pass on their skills to learners and this programme will help them to do this. Each of these individuals will need to be mentored and supported by a Learning Centre and have access to at least two Registered NVQ learners. The training is free and provides each trainee with a nationally recognised Assessor/Verifier qualification and additional support in the use of technology to aid learner progression that also ensures each person has a well rounded and useful training experience.

How it works
Training:
177fully funded training places are being provided. Some of these are for people looking for a new career as an Assessor in the Work Based Learning Sector or for Assessors looking to further develop their career by training as an Internal Verifier. The training is delivered by an organisation that has a successful record in delivery within the London Assessor Project, having delivered over 143 assessor and verifier awards in 11 months, in 2009/10.
The training consists of real-time virtual classes that go through the theory of assessment, the assessment cycle, standardisation and quality assurance, CPD and electronic vs. paper portfolios. There is then a period of one to one support whilst trainees collect their evidence for their award.

Information, Advice and Guidance
The Learning and Skills Council/ ESF funds the Cheshire, Warrington and Lancashire Assessor Project and works in partnership to ensure Cheshire, Warrington and Lancashire’s ongoing skills requirements are being met.
