ILM Level 3 – Award in Starting Your Enterprise - Course Number 878

Whats Involved

Designed to provide you with the key knowledge and skills required to start a business/ enterprise – which may be a social enterprise, charity or co-operative. Equally valuable for the start up of a discrete business unit within a larger organisation.

This concise qualification consists of two mandatory units. In the first unit – ‘Assessing own suitability for enterprise’ you gain an understanding of the risks involved in self employment alongside the skills, knowledge and abilities needed to start and run an enterprise. In the second mandatory unit of the Award you assess the viability of your business idea, including the demand for your product/service and the existence of any competitors in your chosen area.

It will take at least 31 guided learning hours (Glh) to complete. There are 8 credits associated with this qualification. Assessment is by the successful completion of a reflective log and viability review.

There are no formal entry requirements but you will normally be seriously considering starting your own business/ enterprise, and have a business/ enterprise idea on which to base your development, or be embarking on the management of a distinct business unit within a larger organisation.

Future Prospects

Learners may progress from the Award in Starting Your Enterprise to the Certificate in Starting Your Enterprise. (Please note participants may join the Certificate directly and are not required to undertake the Award as a prerequisite.)

Successful learners may progress to other business start up or leadership and management development qualifications for example the ILM Level 5 qualifications in Management.
